BANGALORE: West Indies defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the World Twenty20 Super Ten groups. One match here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday night.Chasing an easy 123-run target, West Indies completed their victory with ten balls remaining in the one-sided match.
It was an unpredictable match as everyone was thinking that Sri Lanka will have the victory, but, West Indies marvelously defeated Sri Lanka in a very awesome way. Opening batsman Andre Fletcher batted throughout to see his team cruise to its second consecutive win with an unbeaten 84. He smashed five sixes and six fours in his 64-ball innings. After three cheap dismissals, Fletcher added 55 runs with Andre Russell, who also remained not out on 20.
Earlier, Sri Lanka after put into bat, could not resist against the Windies bowlers and were restricted to 122 for nine in their 20 overs. A terrific performance by team West Indies, especially Chris Gayle is in full form he made 100 runs (century) in twenty20 match of this tournament against England. West Indies breeze past Sri Lanka, without the need for the Gayle to bowl.
During the match West Indies player Chris Gayle picks up an injury. He picked up the injury while fielding during Sri Lanka’s batting. The 36-year-old didn’t come out to bat at his usual opening slot, but then after the fall of third wicket, he started to walk out but the umpire held him back because of the time he was off the field.
